Pianos go out of tune for many reasons: fluctuations in humidity, frequent playing, relocation. Of these reasons, humidity has the largest general effect. Given Chicago’s extreme changes in humidity between Summer and Winter, it is almost universally recommended that pianos in this area be tuned a minimum of twice a year, regardless of how often they are played.
My tunings use the A440 frequency standard and equal temperament. They usually take 1.5 to 2 hours to complete; however, appointments are always scheduled for 3 hours, just in case any extra work is required.
My standard tuning rate is $180, which includes pitch raises and any small repairs, as needed. Use my online scheduling system to check availability or set up an appointment.
In addition to tunings, I provide other maintenance services, such as cleaning, repair, regulation, and reconditioning.
